About Bashtronaut Game
Bash aliens with blunted weapons as a low-tech exterminator in the arena-based action game, Bashtronaut, coming 2025!
The year is 2025. Humanity, ever reaching, has inadvertently poked a cosmic hornet's nest. Alien invasions, once the stuff of pulp science fiction, are now an alarming, if not relatively normalized, occurrence. In this chaotic landscape, a peculiar organization stands as a bulwark against the extraterrestrial tide: Invader-Be-Gone, Inc., a mega-corporation specializing in, shall we say, "pest control" on a planetary scale. But Invader-Be-Gone, Inc. isn't your typical exterminator service. They are bound by a strict, almost comically paradoxical, green initiative.
This initiative, known as "Oh no, Ozone!", dictates that no harmful, ozone-depleting weaponry is to be used in the eradication of alien invaders. Forget rayguns, forget phasers, forget blasters of any kind. Invader-Be-Gone, Inc. prides itself on its commitment to environmental responsibility, even in the face of intergalactic hostility. This means that its Eradicators, the front-line employees tasked with handling the alien threat, must rely on decidedly low-tech, blunt instruments to get the job done. Think baseball bats, wrenches, hammers, and other everyday objects repurposed as weapons of alien destruction.
Enter ED-870, a newly hired Junior Eradicator at Invader-Be-Gone, Inc. ED-870 isn't driven by some grand altruistic purpose or a burning desire to save humanity. No, his motivation is far more mundane: he wants a promotion. It might seem like a reasonable ambition, but within the Eradicators Division, it's practically a pipe dream. The division boasts an alarming 95% employee mortality rate. Most either die on the job, succumbing to the alien hordes, or simply quit, their sanity shattered by the sheer absurdity and danger of their work. ED-870, however, is undeterred. He sees the high mortality rate not as a warning, but as an opportunity. After all, with so many others failing, the path to advancement should be relatively clear, right?
The gameplay of "Bashtronaut" plunges you into ED-870's world, subjecting you to the trials and tribulations of a corporate Eradicator. Each level takes the form of an arena, where waves of increasingly hostile alien invaders descend upon you. Your objective is simple: survive, eradicate, and earn enough company credits to climb the corporate ladder. Success hinges not just on brute force, but on tactical thinking. You'll need to learn the attack patterns of each alien type, identify their weaknesses, and utilize the environment to your advantage.
The combat in "Bashtronaut" is deliberately visceral and weighty. Each swing of your chosen blunted weapon feels impactful, the crunch of alien bones and the splattering of extraterrestrial goo providing a grimly satisfying sense of accomplishment. But it's not just about mindlessly bashing. You'll need to manage your stamina, time your attacks, and utilize special moves to maximize your damage output. And of course, no good corporate employee would go without perks.
As you complete client contracts and rack up company credits, you'll gain access to a range of company-approved upgrades. These upgrades can enhance your character's stats, unlock new weapons, and grant you access to special abilities. You might, for example, invest in a reinforced helmet to withstand more damage, or upgrade your trusty baseball bat to inflict critical hits. Other company-approved performance enhancers are accessible within the levels.
Luckily, ED-870 is not completely alone in his absurd corporate struggle. He has the guidance of Senior Eradicator ED-575. A grizzled veteran of countless alien engagements, ED-575 has seen it all and somehow managed to survive, at least for now. He serves as ED-870's mentor, dispensing valuable advice and combat tips. Listening to ED-575 might just be the key to surviving the Eradicators Division, and maybe, just maybe, getting that coveted promotion. His guidance also helps inform the player of the setting and it's many intricacies.
Remember, Management cares about its employees... or so they say. At the end of each client contract, your performance is evaluated by Management in a detailed Performance Appraisal. Exceptional performance is rewarded with a bonus in company credits, incentivizing you to go above and beyond in your alien-bashing duties. And, to further motivate you, Management occasionally sends words of inspiration directly to Eradicators during their missions, usually coinciding with the consumption of company-approved performance-enhancing products. These messages are often bizarre, nonsensical, and vaguely threatening, adding to the game's darkly comedic tone.
So, suit up, Bashtronaut. Grab that wrench, that baseball bat, that suspiciously heavy toaster. The aliens are invading, and it's your job to bash them back to whatever corner of the galaxy they crawled out of. Just remember, corporate values come first. "Oh no, Ozone!"
