In ancient times, a proud empire flourished, ruled by the Serpent Clan. The Lotus and Crane Clans plotted for greater influence, but a sinister darkness emerged from the shadows, spawning terrifying creatures of pure night. The Serpent Clan's leader, Tarrant, foresaw the impending doom and fled southward with the Dragon Orb, a prized possession.

As they reached the Southern Seas, Tarrant confronted the relentless Horde. Summoning the Orb's immense power, he severed the southern tip of the continent, sacrificing himself and the Orb to protect his people. The Horde, unable to cross water, was vanquished, but the empire was shattered.

Two other Clans, the Lotus and the Wolf, sought refuge on the newly formed island. The Lotus Clan, twisted and corrupt, employed unknown means to cross the barrier.
