In response, CMG Belov is ordered to advance to Romny and provide support to the trapped troops. However, the German headquarters strengthens the outer perimeter with elements of 10MID and MID SS "Reich" to prevent a breakthrough of the encirclement ring.

The game takes place in September 1941, when German forces captured Lokhvitsa and Lubny. The 9th Tank Division (1st Tank Army) approaches Lokhvitsa from the southeast, while the 3rd Tank Division (2nd Tank Army) approaches from the north. By September 15, the encirclement around the 5th, 21st, 26th, and 37th Soviet armies of the SWF is complete, with the SWF headquarters also trapped. On the night of September 18, the Stavka (Soviet High Command) allows the 37th Army troops to leave Kiev. The order for the encircled armies of the SWF to break through to the east is given on the evening of September 17. The 38th and 40th Armies, which are outside the encirclement, are supposed to support the exit of the encircled SWF troops by attacking Romny and Lubny.

To strengthen the defense zone of the SWF, 2nd Cavalry Corps (5th and 9th Cavalry Divisions) is transferred from the Southern Front. Based on this corps, General Belov forms the Cavalry Mechanized Group (CMG), which includes 2nd Cavalry Corps, 1st Tank Brigade, 29th Tank Brigade, and 100th Rifle Division. The CMG units are tasked with delivering a strike in the direction of Romny to assist the encircled SWF troops. South of CMG Belov, a group consisting of the 5th Cavalry Corps and 110th Tank Brigade operates, deployed from the 38th Army sector.

On September 19, the 9th Cavalry Division (2nd Cavalry Corps) receives an order to attack in the direction of Romny and capture the bridges across the Sula River. The 129th Tank Brigade is quickly transferred to the front line, resulting in personnel from different units having limited coordination. The brigade consists of three tank battalions and one motorized rifle battalion.

To prevent the encirclement from being broken, the outer perimeter is reinforced by elements of German motorized divisions, namely the 10th Motorized Infantry Division (10MID) and the SS "Das Reich" Motorized Infantry Division. The 41st Motorized Infantry Regiment (10MID) moves behind the 3rd Tank Division and occupies a bridgehead on the Sula River east of Romny. The main forces of the 10MID advance toward the crossings on the northern bank of the Sula River near Korovnitsy. The SS "Das Reich" Division, through a forced march, is transferred to the area west of Romny, passing through Priluki. The 41st Motorized Infantry Regiment is placed under its command, and the engineering battalion of the SS "Das Reich" Division ensures the division's crossings across the Sula River. The division is ordered to advance towards Korovnitsy, with the support of three battalions from the SS "Das Reich" Assault Regiment.

The game encompasses an operation that spans ten turns, taking place in September 1941.
