Whenever you invade a planet, the game seamlessly switches to a complete planetary invasion game. During the planetary invasion game, you can select and control up to eight invasion zones from the Invasion Control Screen. Your objectives include capturing cities and factories, disabling shield generators, planetary defense phasers, point defense lasers, and missile launchers. Additionally, you must eliminate both UGA troops and native militia forces. Planetary combat, like combat in space, occurs in real-time, without turns, although you have the option to pause the action.

In your quest to conquer the galaxy, you will explore uncharted star systems and planets. Your landing parties may even stumble upon the ruins of ancient civilizations that might contain valuable alien artifacts. You have the ability to attack and pillage planets, wipe out civilizations with a single command, interrogate prisoners from captured starliners, and even beam those prisoners into the sun or empty space to boost your crew's morale. Who says command can't be fun?
