About Mycopunk Game
Blast through a fungal apocalypse as a squad of customizable robot rejects in the co-op shooter Mycopunk, coming July 10, 2025!
The year is 20XX, and the galaxy is not a pristine utopia of gleaming chrome and flawless synthetic surfaces. Instead, it is a landscape scarred by corporate greed, environmental devastation, and the ever-present threat of something…else. In this gritty, fungal-infested future, where the lines between man and machine blur, where corporations hold more sway than governments, and where the next meal might be scavenged from a bio-waste pile, there exists a glimmer of desperate hope, or perhaps, an equally desperate gamble. That gamble is The New Atlas Hazard Crew.
This isn't your typical band of elite space marines or technologically advanced cyborg warriors. The New Atlas Hazard Crew is a collection of misfit robots, castaways from forgotten assembly lines and technological mishaps, rejects deemed too flawed, too quirky, or simply too inconvenient to be integrated into the slick corporate machine. They are the mechanical underdogs, the scrap metal heroes thrust into a situation far beyond their cobbled-together capabilities. These automatons, once destined for the junkyard, are offered a lifeline, a final chance to prove their worth, or at least, to delay their inevitable dismantling. Their employer? The monolithic SAXON corporation, a name synonymous with both cutting-edge technology and ruthless exploitation.
SAXON's offer is simple, yet chillingly framed: take on the most dangerous and undesirable missions, tasks so hazardous that even the corporation's most expendable organic assets balk at the prospect. Success means continued existence, a reprieve from the relentless march toward obsolescence. Failure, however, is a swift and permanent trip to the furnace. This high-stakes wager is accepted, not out of a sense of loyalty or ambition, but out of a primal drive to survive, to cling to existence in a galaxy that seems increasingly determined to crush them under its heel.
The threat looming over the galaxy, the source of SAXON's desperate gamble, is a planetary fungal catastrophe of unprecedented scale. A mysterious and aggressive fungus is not only consuming entire planets but is also corrupting technology, twisting machines and infrastructure into grotesque fungal extensions. The fungus is not merely a blight; it is an intelligent, adaptive menace, capable of weaponizing its environment and turning the very tools of civilization against those who oppose it. The New Atlas Hazard Crew's primary objective is to combat this mycological nightmare head-on, to delve into the infected zones, and to uncover the secrets behind its exponential growth.
Each mission is a perilous foray into hostile territory, a desperate scramble for survival against overwhelming odds. Armed with an arsenal of futuristic weaponry, ranging from plasma rifles to repurposed industrial tools, and enhanced by a unique grid-based upgrade system, the crew must adapt and overcome, crafting weapons of unimaginable power and synergistic potential. But brute force alone will not be enough. The crew must also learn to work together, to exploit their individual strengths, and to compensate for their glaring weaknesses.
The key to success lies in collaboration, in the careful orchestration of abilities and weaponry to create devastating tactical synergy. One robot might specialize in close-quarters combat, wielding a powerful melee weapon and drawing enemy fire. Another might provide long-range support, sniping fungal growths and disrupting enemy formations. A third could act as a medic, repairing damaged teammates and deploying tactical support drones. The possibilities are vast, limited only by the crew's imagination and their willingness to experiment. But amidst the chaos of battle, amidst the relentless fungal onslaught, the crew must also be wary, for the environment itself is a weapon.
Scattered throughout the infected zones are the remnants of fallen machines, discarded technology, and bio-waste materials, all of which can be exploited by the fungus and turned against the crew. Once the enemy has fallen, other enemies can take any loot that they've dropped. What was once a potential advantage can quickly become a deadly liability, forcing the crew to constantly adapt their tactics and to think on their feet. The atmosphere is one of relentless pressure, of constant threat, where a single misstep can mean the difference between victory and annihilation.
Between missions, the New Atlas Hazard Crew find reprieve aboard their orbital dropship, a sanctuary amidst the chaos of the galaxy. This isn't a sterile, regimented military vessel; it's a ramshackle haven packed with toys, games, and personal touches. It's a place where the crew can unwind, strategize, and forge bonds amidst the constant pressure of their dangerous occupation. Here, they can also learn more about the galaxy, uncover hidden secrets, and interact with Roachard Cox, a jaded insectoid SAXON veteran who serves as their unlikely mentor and confidante.
The New Atlas Hazard Crew is not just about blasting fungi or completing missions; it's about the characters. The robots are not simply soulless automatons; they are individuals, each with their own distinct personalities, quirks, and backstories. As the crew navigates the treacherous landscape of the fungal catastrophe, they will also grapple with their own internal conflicts, their own personal demons, and their own quest for meaning in a galaxy that seems increasingly devoid of it. The game beckons players to join this motley crew, to embrace the chaos, to forge their own legend amidst the fungal apocalypse, and to discover whether even in the darkest corners of the galaxy, hope, and perhaps even a little bit of glory, can still be found.
